What is the quality of the air indoors?

Dear Homeowner,

Right now especially, everybody feels staying inside is better than being outside; you close your door, shut your windows, and you have a safe feeling. However that is in many cases untrue. The house dust may be polluted by lead formaldehyde, fire retardants, radon, even volatile chemicals from fragrances used in conventional cleaners. Make sure the air quality in your home is the best it can be.

Some pollutants are tracked into the home, and some arrive via a new mattress, or even new furniture. You may also find microscopic dust mites, mold, and heaps of pet dander, according to David Lange MD of allergies flesh immunology at the Cleveland clinic.  “Even if you don’t have pets your probly got pet dander” he states. Indoor allergens and irritants have become much more important in recent days because we’re spending more time indoors, and because modern homes are airtight, these irritants can’t easily escape. We’re all exposed to a greater degree of germs than we were just months ago.

What you can do to help stop the irritants before they come in?  Wipe your feet on a mat and/or take off your shoes. Use a vacuum that has a HEPA filter. Dust Frequently. Open a window and let some of the fresh air in. All of these steps will improve air quality in your home.
